Don't Cry If You Love Me

Death is nothing.

I only went across to the other side.

I am I.

You are you.

What we have been one to the other, we will be for ever.

Give me the name you have always given me.

Talk to me as you have always talked.

Don't use a different tone.

Don't assume a solemn and sad appearence.

Continue laughing at what made us laugh together.

Pray, smile, think of me, pray for me.

Let my name be uttered at home

as it has always been, without any sort of emphasys.

Without any sign of shadow.

Life means what it has always meant.

It is what it has always been, the thread has not been cut off.

Why should I be out of your thought

Just because I am out of your sight?

I am not far away, only at the other end of the path.

You see, it is all right.

You will meet my heart again, you will find its purified tenderness again .

Dry your tears.

And don't cry if you love me.

St. Augustine
